“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6
Today, the Ge’ez Calendar paints the world with a vibrant glow, marking the birth of our savior, Jesus Christ. On this blessed day, the King of kings, the Lord of lords, descended to Earth, embodying himself in human form to redeem us from sin and death. What a profound act of mercy! What majestic love flows from our God! What other king would humble themselves so completely to embrace their people?
The Christmas season is inspired with a special spirit, even for those who may not grasp its full significance. Undeniable joy spreads through the air, a softening of hearts, a willingness to be kind and generous. American culture, in particular, seems to shed its usual stress and embrace a laid-back merriment. It could be the twinkling lights, the carols filling the air, the anticipation of shared laughter and warmth. Whatever the reason, there’s no denying that Christmas holds a certain magic.
“But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior.” Titus 3:4-6
For those of us who walk in the footsteps of Christ, this day resonates with a deeper, more profound meaning. The God of heaven and earth, the creator of all, the Lord Almighty, stepped into our imperfect world to offer us salvation! It’s a marvel that boggles the mind, a love story that defies comprehension. Jesus, humbled himself to bridge the gap between us and our Father, God. The way he chose to come – born in a humble manger, surrounded by the simple and the overlooked – speaks volumes about the boundless love that resides within him.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
On this Christmas Day, may the true essence of Jesus Christ fill your hearts and homes. May His love illuminate your path, his understanding guide your steps, and his sacrifice forever remind you of the boundless grace bestowed upon us.
Merry Christmas, my Ethiopian family and friends! May this day be filled with blessings, joy, and the unwavering light of Christ.
