Finding True Freedom This 4th of July

Today, I get to celebrate Independence Day as an American πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ. I find myself filled with a newfound sense of appreciation. The sacrifices made by those who fought for our freedom feel more real than ever before.

I have lived in the USA for over a decade, yet I haven’t felt this deep appreciation. This makes me think of those who have been living as a “Christian” yet do not fully comprehend or understand the true meaning of freedom, which is the freedom we have in Jesus Christ. Before I became a citizen of America, this day was just another “American holiday” for me. So often we simply go through the motions of living as a “Christian” without truly being part of God’s family or citizens of heaven, or truly believing in God. Let me ask you this: Are you a “Christian” or are you a CHRISTIAN, a follower of Christ who is part of the Citizens of God?

As I reflect on national liberty, I’m reminded that true freedom extends far beyond the freedoms we enjoy as citizens. There’s a deeper freedom we all crave – freedom from the things that hold us back, the struggles that imprison us.

For many, that prison can be sin, addiction, or feelings of hopelessness. This Independence Day, I hope that everyone can find the true freedom that comes from our savior Jesus Christ. It’s a freedom that transcends circumstance and offers a path to joy and fulfillment.

The sacrifices made for our national freedom are undeniable. But the sacrifice made for our eternal freedom – through faith in Jesus – is immeasurable. As we celebrate this Fourth of July, let’s rejoice in the freedoms we have and seek the even greater freedom that awaits us through Jesus Christ our Savior.
